Switzerland as a Destination for Unforgettable Weddings and Events

As a destination event planner, I am incredibly fortunate to experience the world through venues, hospitality, and culture. One of the most memorable and inspiring journeys I have ever taken was being hosted by Switzerland Tourism to explore the country as a premier destination for weddings and events. After visiting several regions and iconic properties, I can confidently say Switzerland is in a class of its own.

From efficiency and hospitality to breathtaking scenery and seamless transportation, Switzerland offers everything couples and hosts dream of when planning a destination wedding or luxury event. Add in world class hotels, private estates, mountain venues, and impeccable service, and you have a destination that effortlessly blends romance, elegance, and precision.

Seamless Travel and Swiss Hospitality

The journey began with Swiss Air, my all time favorite airline. Flying in Premium Economy was an experience in itself, with curated lunch and dinner menus, specialty drinks upon arrival, wine, desserts, and thoughtful snacks throughout the flight. From the moment you arrive, Switzerland makes you feel cared for.

Efficiency is truly part of Swiss culture. Communication was prompt and clear, hospitality was warm and genuine, and transportation was flawlessly organized. This is one of the reasons Switzerland works so beautifully for destination weddings. Your guests feel relaxed, confident, and well taken care of from start to finish.

Montreux and Lake Geneva: A Grand Beginning

After landing in Zurich, I traveled to Geneva and spent my first night at the Fairmont Le Montreux Palace, a legendary property located on the shores of Lake Geneva. This historic hotel has hosted iconic musicians such as B.B. King, Aretha Franklin, and Van Morrison, and is deeply connected to the world famous Montreux Jazz Festival.

The room was everything you would expect from a five star luxury experience. A king size bed, plush robe, luxury skincare products, Swiss chocolate, and a breathtaking lake view welcomed me. The air felt clean and refreshing, and the entire stay felt indulgent yet peaceful.

Breakfast was equally impressive, whether enjoyed in the main dining area or on a private balcony. A lavish buffet featuring fresh pastries, yogurt, eggs, and local cheeses made for a perfect start to the day. After breakfast, we toured the hotel’s stunning event and wedding spaces, which offer a refined lakeside backdrop ideal for elegant celebrations.

Scenic Journeys and Interlaken Elegance

One of my top recommendations for anyone visiting Switzerland is the Swiss Travel Pass, which offers unlimited travel by train, bus, and boat. It makes moving through the country effortless and enjoyable.

From Montreux, we boarded the GoldenPass Express to Interlaken. This panoramic train ride redefines travel, offering uninterrupted views of mountains, green landscapes, and yes, the famous happy cows. It was truly unforgettable.

In Interlaken, we stayed at the iconic Victoria Jungfrau Grand Hotel and Spa, nestled between lakes and rivers. The hotel blends traditional elegance with modern luxury, offering spacious suites, warm hospitality, and incredible views. My suite featured soft blue tones, thoughtful welcome desserts, and fresh fruit that immediately made me feel at home.

Dinner at the hotel was a multi course culinary experience curated by cultural chefs, showcasing Swiss flavors with a refined touch. The property itself offers some of the most spectacular views for weddings and corporate events in the region.

Grindelwald, Mountain Magic, and Storybook Venues

On day three, we traveled from Interlaken Ost Train Station to Grindelwald via the Eiger Express gondola. The ride delivered stunning views of the Eiger’s north face and the Bernese Oberland mountain landscape. Standing at the Panoramahalle, surrounded by glaciers and peaks, felt surreal.

Lunch was hosted at Romantik Hotel Schweizerhof, a family run five star hotel located in a quiet panoramic setting. The meal felt nostalgic and comforting, reminiscent of a warm soup noodle dish enjoyed on a cold day. The hotel’s cozy rooms and unique character make it a beautiful option for intimate weddings.

Just above the hotel sits a ceremony location with uninterrupted views of the Eiger Massif. It is truly a wow moment and a dream setting for couples seeking a mountain wedding.

Grindelwald itself is one of Switzerland’s most popular destinations and serves as the gateway to the Jungfrau region. That evening, we experienced a traditional Swiss fondue dinner at Harder Kulm, accessible by a short funicular ride from Interlaken. The sunset views overlooking the city were unforgettable. This venue also hosts exclusive weddings and welcomed us with a traditional alphorn performance upon arrival.

Although paragliding was canceled due to weather for safety reasons, the experience continued with shopping at Kirchhofer, one of Switzerland’s leading luxury watch, jewelry, and leather goods retailers. Switzerland is, after all, home to some of the world’s most iconic watch brands.

We then visited the Congress Centre Kursaal Interlaken, a venue that beautifully blends historic architecture with state of the art facilities. It is ideal for large scale events, conferences, and elegant receptions.

Lucerne: Culture, Elegance, and Iconic Luxury

From Meiringen, we boarded the Lucerne Express, enjoying a light lunch while passing crystal clear mountain lakes, waterfalls, and rivers. Upon arrival in Lucerne, we toured the old town before checking into my all time favorite hotel of the trip, the Mandarin Oriental Palace, Luzern.

Mandarin Oriental Palace, Luzern: A Wedding Dream

From the moment I arrived, the hospitality was unmatched. My room was filled with floral arrangements, desserts, and thoughtful gifts from Switzerland Tourism. The design and color palette of the Palace felt refined and serene.

And yes, the robe stole my heart. A kimono style Yukata inspired robe made the experience even more special. Personalized welcome messages, luxury amenities, meticulous turndown service, and even a rubber duck for a bubble bath showed how much attention to detail truly matters.

I stayed in a Deluxe Suite with Lake View and Balcony, offering sweeping views of Lake Lucerne and the historic city. The understated luxury, custom furnishings, and marble bathroom created a space that felt indulgent yet calming.

Before dinner, we enjoyed aperitifs overlooking Lake Lucerne at sunset. Dinner was a beautifully styled fall tablescape curated by Michelin starred chef Gilad Peled, offering a culinary journey that felt both intimate and elevated.

The Mandarin Oriental Palace features a ballroom accommodating up to 210 guests, making it an exceptional choice for weddings, private celebrations, and social events. With 136 elegant rooms, four restaurants, and world class service, it is truly a destination venue on its own.
